Generic NYC Woman

by The Blackjacks, 1984

/

about

The lead off track to our first EP "Basic Blackjacks" (Homestead 001).

The snide putdown in the lyric of East Village snobbery earned us a "-4" in the Village Voice--the worst slam you could get.

Naturally, we loved that.

Dan Zanes correctly pegged the opening lick as being nicked from "Hey Birddog". (It's also the same one as "Radio, Radio").

lyrics

The consummate artist/She lives at the gallery/She don't go to bed, go to work, earn a salary.

Leader, Thrills, Blackjacks, Swinging E's, Creeps In Exile and now romantic balladeer. Sort of.

This is what happens when punk rockers get older, have babies and get a little consciousness--sometimes.
